The Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center is headed by Dr. Brian L. Johnson, a dermatologic surgeon who began his medical training at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon graduation, he was designated a United States Navy medical officer. His Navy medical career was diversified, serving on three naval ships - USS Yellowstone AD-41, USS Kearsarge LHD-3 and USS Iwo Jima LHD-7. He also participated in major deployments and field assignments with the Seabees and Special Forces. The majority of his clinical time was spent at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He studied dermatology at Johns Hopkins, and completed a Mohs Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern Skin Cancer Institute in Chicago, following in the footsteps of his father, renowned dermatologist / dermatopathologist Dr. Bernett L. Johnson Jr. After 24 years of service Dr. Johnson retired from the Navy and established Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Surgery, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Johnson treats conditions of the skin, hair and nails. However, his emphasis is on the treatment of skin cancer using the Mohs Micrographic surgical technique, an advanced surgical procedure for the treatment of skin cancers.
Robert J. Masters, FNP-BC is a board certified nurse practitioner who completed his undergraduate training at Colorado State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and minors in Physical Education and Secondary Education. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and was commissioned in the United States Navy in the Nurse Corps. After several stateside and overseas assignments, he was sent to graduate school and completed his Master of Science degree in Nursing from Hampton University. He has been certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2000.
Mr. Masters was the first ever Family Nurse Practitioner to be credentialed as a medical provider in Dermatology in the United States Navy. After serving his country for 20 years on active duty service and one year of Government Service, Mr. Masters retired from the Navy and joined former colleague and mentor Dr. Brian L. Johnson, founder and medical director of Virginia Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center, in 2007. He is qualified to diagnose, prescribe and treat patients of all age ranges in the field of Dermatology and to perform dermatologic surgery as well. Mr. Masters is married to the former Mana Krismer of Chicago, who coordinates all Parish Nurse activities at First Lutheran Church. They have 3 sons: Nicholas, Robert Jr. and Nathaniel, who are all involved in church youth groups, boy/cub scouts and many other activities.
Dawn McEnroe, RN is a board certified registered nurse who completed her training at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. She grew up locally in Virginia Beach. She has been a nurse for over twelve years and initially specialized in cardiovascular disease. Dawn has been the lead clinical research coordinator on over twenty new drug and device studies. Her interest in cosmetic nursing led her first to working with lasers treating all skin conditions. She received additional training in skin rejuvenation and other anti-aging modalities and now practices as a certified nurse injector. As a nurse injector, she can provide patients with a non-surgical alternative to soften fine lines and give back lost volume to aging skin. Botox®, Juvéderm®, and Radiesse® are just some of the products utilized for these procedures. This is an ever-changing and expanding new field that requires frequent continuing education. New products and procedures are being launched every day. The goal is to be able to provide patients with state-of-the-art progressive new alternatives to improve and enhance a youthful appearance. In addition to her role as nurse injector, Dawn also assists Dr. Brian Johnson in coordinating clinical research studies.
DeAnna Bain, LMA is a Licensed Master Aesthetician who has been practicing for over six years. DeAnna is originally from Jacksonville, Florida, but has made Tidewater her home for most of her life. She has advanced training in all facets of skin care and performs personalized consultations to develop individualized treatment plans. She utilizes intense pulse light, laser resurfacing and dual wavelength laser to treat many conditions, including: severe to moderate sun damage, acne, acne and surgical scarring, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, melasma, actinic keratosis as well as seborrehic keratosis. She performs superficial and medium depth chemical peels and facials in a clinical setting. DeAnna is constantly upgrading her skills with continuing education. She also is sought after for her expertise and has conducted training seminars for physicians at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center.
In addition to her passion for helping others obtain healthy skin, she also donates her time to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. DeAnna looks forward to meeting you to discuss all of your skin care concerns and develop a home care regimen that is right for you.
